Colline di Sopra began in the Fall of 2006 on the slopes that from Montescudaio overlook and degrade slowly on the Cecina Valley. Five hectars of new vineyards, planted by selecting the most suitable clones for the ground and prevailing winds, are joined to two hectars of already existing olive trees. The Vineyard is exposed N/E and N/W in a sunny and breezy area, 10 km from the sea, altitude 120/200 metres. The Company’s Objective: having products of the highest quality possible joined with an appreciation and safeguarding of the area through the biological management of the crops, the adoption of renewable energy and maximum attention to the water resources issue.

Wine cellar...concealed into the hillside and topped by a large roof for the primary processing of the grapes. It is made up of a winemaking area, an ageing area with natural temperature control and a heated storage area. The use of pumps is greatly avoided and the filling of the tanks occurs by dropping from above after a careful selection of grapes at harvest and at the entrance to the cellar.

Visits and Tastings with prior Reservation.

The company Fattoria Casa di Terra was founded in 1950 by the grandparents of the current owners Julian and Jessica Frollani, Bolgheri, in the heart of Tuscany. These lands, originally dedicated to the cultivation of vegetables, olive oil and wine, left over the years, more and more space to the vineyards to the final decision in 2001 to dedicate the entire surface of the land to the production of wine.

The farm, located in the hills around Bolgheri, covers about 120 hectares, of which 30 are vineyards Bolgheri DOC and IGT Toscana. The land of vineyards is of medium texture with balanced layers of skeleton, clays and minerals which, combined with the commitment and dedication, have led to the creation of four labels of wine DOC Bolgheri Vermentino and three reds.

Thanks to the company's position and its land and to a winning combination of location, soil and climate, the company Fattoria Casa di Terra produces wines of great quality.

GRATTAMACCO
Castagneto Carducci (LI)

For Information and Reservations: +39 337 1460631 - info@visitcostadeglietruschi.com

Grattamacco was established in 1977; the estate is situated on top of a hill facing the sea between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri at 100 m asl. Thanks to the dry, mild climate with significant temperature range especially at the end of the summer, the area is particulary suitable for viticulture.

The estate follows the criteria of organic farming, guaranteed and certified by ICEA; it extends over an area of about 50 hectares, of which 25 are vineyards and 5 are olive groves.

The hilly vineyards, characterized by calcareous sandstone, mixed clay and marly calcareous flysch are trained to Cordone speronato, Guyot and Alberello, with yields of around 6 to 7 tons/hectare. The average age of the vineyards is about 25 years.

During the harvest, grapes are carefully, manually selected; the natural fermentation occurs without adding yeast; for Grattamacco Bolgheri Superiore it takes place in open, conical durmast oak barrels with a capacity of 700 lt with soft manual treading and is a long-lasting process. For the other wines it is carried out by means of stainless fermenting vessels. The aging lasts 18 months in barriques of first and second passage for Grattamacco Bolgheri superiore and L’Alberello,8 moths for Bolgheri Rosso with aproximately 10% new barriques and 90% used ones.

Since 1999 the family has given a major impetus to wine growing with new vineyards and wine making investments.

The first 17 hectares of new specialized vineyards have been planted with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Vermentino and Viognier.

The vineyards belong to the Montescudaio appellation and grow on low hilly terrain (80 m above sea level), on three different parcels, where the soil offers the best pedo-climatic characteristics for the growth of the vine.

The Marchesi Ginori Lisci winery currently makes three red wines: the top wine Castello Ginori (Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon), Macchion del Lupo (Cabernet Sauvignon) and Campordigno (Merlot). The other two wines are Bacìo, a perfumed rosé, and Virgola a fresh white wine.

The Ginori Lisci family has always been proud of its history, acknowledging with gratitude the achievements of its ancestors. But each successive generation has always been forward-looking. Today, this vision of the future is represented by a biogas plant that exploits the fermentation process of the estate’s products and by-products, in both the wine and olive oil sectors. The biogas is transformed into renewable energy, partly used by the winery and for the most part contributed to the national electric grid. The residual biomass, degraded by the fermentation processes, is used as natural fertilizer for the estate.

The Pagani de Marchi estate was established in 1996, on the land surrounding a holiday house. The decision was to create a vineyard with Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The choice, based on soil analysis, turned out to be well justified.

Immediately, with the first vinification, we had wines of really high intensity. We decided to make three 100% varietal wines in order to emphasize the character of each of them. The evaluations and the scores of the experts and specialized press have been extremely gratifying.

The care and attention devoted continuously to the vineyard, and the untiring and meticulous work in the cellar have been fundamental to receive an extremely positive welcome from the market.

The human dimension, with the constant presence of the family, wine experts and qualified workers have enabled us to maintain a continuous high level of quality during this period.

Over the years, the rigorous selection of the best grapes, has allowed us to bring up the quality of the three unblended wines to a high level of excellence, and given us room to make 2 blended wines, still with same grapes, but with different grape percentages and ageing techniques.

In 2009 we added to our family of "reds" a white wine based on Vermentino grapes. The positive response from the market allows us to establish it as the sixth member in our family.

The ever strong desire to make wines, not only of high quality, but expressing also all natural potential of the local climate and terroir, drove us, from the year 2009, to grow the grapes in our vineyard according to the principles and the rules of biological agriculture. The most important markets for our wines beside Italy, are Switzerland, USA, Russia, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands and Japan.

The vines of the estate are planted in about 6 hectares, on the hills underneath the village of Casale Maritimo at about 200 metres above sea level. The land where the vines are located is composed of sedimentary clays of the Pliocene era that remind one of the blue-grayish soil of French Pomerol.

The harvest usually begins during the first ten days of September for Merlot, in the third ten days of the same month for Sangiovese and in the first days of October for Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are directly selected in the vineyard and then they are carried to the cellar for immediate vinification.

POGGIO AL TESORO
Castagneto Carducci (LI)

For Information and Reservation: +39 337 1460631 - info@visitcostadeglietruschi.com

Throughout the world the Allegrini name has been considered a benchmark in Italian winemaking. The wines produced by the family in the Valpolicella Classico area have always communicated quality. In a desire to look beyond the confines of its own territory, Allegrini set a challenge for themselves in one of Italy’s most prestigious wine-producing areas: Tuscany. In 2001, Marilisa, together with her late brother, Walter, purchased land in Bolgheri on which they founded the new winery, Poggio al Tesoro. Produced from some 70 hectares (175 acres) of carefully and meticulously tended vineyards, the wines from this Estate combine strength and elegance. They are intense, deeply textured and brimming with aromas and flavours with predominant, satisfying fruitiness. The personality of Poggio al Tesoro wines is enhanced by the decision to cultivate the traditional grape varieties of the area such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Vermentino. Poggio al Tesoro produces intelligent wines which, since their debut on the market, have succeeded in gathering acclaim from both the public and International critics alike, the latter emphasizing the intuitive innovations underlying the project in Bolgheri.

The Poggio al Tesoro estate is located in Tuscany, in Bolgheri, an area that witnessed the splendor of the ancient Etruscan civilization and embraced the poetry of Carducci. Today it is a favourite destination for lovers of typical Mediterranean landscape, with its cork-oaks, arbutus shrubs, pines, refuges for migratory birds and wood gently sloping towards the sea, a sort of natural oasis that also sustains thriving vineyards and olive groves.

Close proximity to the sea has a mitigating influence on the climate in Bolgheri, while protection is offered against adverse climatic conditions by the hills to the east of the Estate. One of the main projects undertaken at Poggio al Tesoro was the study of the Estate’s soil type and climate, so that only the vines planted were those most suited to the micro-climatic conditions. So far, four vineyards have been planted: two along Via Bolgherese, the biggest in an area called Le Sondraie, closest to the sea, and the fourth in the town of Bibbona.

It is possible to have a reservation for a guided visit of the cellar of Poggio al Tesoro all year round, walking on the vineyards and following the maturation of the grapes, attended by the tour of the barriques, the vinification area and bottling line with final tasting of the wine of Poggio al Tesoro at the farmhouse of the Winery.
